Writing
Musicological works
Grégoire de Vonlette’s writing is extensive and diverse, ranging from literature and education to science and theology.
Grégoire de Vonlette’s books aim to cover conservatorial needs, so for that reason the "Thesaurus Conservatorii" (= “Conservatory Treasure”) series, while a big and ambitious project, is being continued while four books have been published. Tsekouras Publications has published 4 books from the “Conservatory Treasure”.
Books of Music Theory
Op. 1 “Music Theory I, Courses beyond the instrument” [2012]
- Author:
- Grégoire de Vonlette
- Title:
- “Music Theory I, Courses beyond the instrument”
- Publishing House:
- Tsekouras Publications
Description:
The three books of theory come about to cover one of the most important gaps in music practice. The first thing every student needs for their study on musical instrument is a good quality book! Every volume of theory consists of four books (musical theory, musical dictation, solfeggio and homework exercises), with a wide variety of material for the teacher to work on and informative structure to help orientate the student! Divided in lessons, it analyzes the material in depth so the students that perhaps missed the lesson can catch up with the rest of their class. Additionally, inside the theories pages one can find extra historical or musicological information for the student that wants to learn a bit more. Towards the end of the volume there are charts with everything the students have to know when taking their exams.
Op. 2 “Music Theory II, Courses beyond the instrument” [2012]
- Author:
- Grégoire de Vonlette
- Title:
- “Music Theory II, Courses beyond the instrument”
- Publishing House:
- Tsekouras Publications
Description:
The second volume, continuing the series, offers, among others, time signatures, Italian terminology, transposition, repetition signs, etc. It presents articulation and symbols that a musician might find hard to treasure. The musical dictation system is pioneering: for the first time in Greek education a book distinguishes the auditory stimuli and has exercises for intervals, chords, scales... Lemoine’s (19th century) age old manual, that has become so widespread among the Greek conservatories, is now replaced with solfeggio lessons that specialize in rhythmic solfeggio and melodic solfeggio.
Op. 3 “Music Theory III, Courses beyond the instrument” [2012]
- Author:
- Grégoire de Vonlette
- Title:
- “Music Theory III, Courses beyond the instrument”
- Publishing House:
- Tsekouras Publications
Description:
The third volume of the theory series refers to small notes, ornaments, fiorituras... Learning about tuplets, the students have the opportunity to better understand time, while the many examples familiarize them with musicology and prepare them for their future studies in Harmony. The chromatic and fantastic scales that are usually considered secondary in most music lessons, now take the attention they deserve. In the end one can find a small dictionary of English musical terms and most importantly, the ever necessary for every musical library, index of ornamentations. The solfeggio practice is gradually enriched with solfeggio for two voices or a cappella solfeggio, steps that gradually evolve the student without them being disappointed by the requirements.
Op. 4 “Telegraphic harmony” [2018]
- Author:
- Grégoire de Vonlette
- Title:
- “Telegraphic Harmony”
- Publishing House:
- Tsekouras Publications
Description:
It’s a fast, but complete, overview of the Harmony curriculum. It’s a book useful to the student that wants to test their knowledge when revising for their exams. It orderly presents the answers for different systems, like the European and the Russian. The borrowed chords and the chromatic modulation are equally represented. The book after the theoretical part offers melodies for each chapter and also practice tests for each level. Finally at the very end, one would find melodies of the examination for graduation from the past 20 years.
Poetry
Op. 1 ‘Nestorias’ («Νεστοριὰσ») [2016]
- Author:
- Grégoire de Vonlette
- Title:
- Op. 1 «Νεστοριὰσ» [2016]
- Publishing House:
- Tsekouras Publications
Περιγραφή:
Nestoriada is a set of 69 poems (over 2,000 verses). The main character in all these poems is a ferret: Nestor. It covers many themes, mainly theological and musical, while narrating simple incidents of ferret-life which lead the reader to contemplation and introspection. Elements of children’s literature prevail throughout the poems but in no case can Nestorias be considered poetry for children. The poems are written in the style of ‘Epigrigoriani’, which is an artificial language based on the ancient Greek language with the writer’s modifications. Each poem is followed by a translation to Modern Greek and rich commentary. There are many innovations in the writing system and metrics.
You can buy Nestoriada from Tsekouras Publications.
The music books are available from the G. Mavromoustakis Music House or from Tsekouras Publications. Online orders are also available but only with pay on delivery.
